Bizarre Living Rock That Can Be Eaten And Contains Clear Blood

These rocks live on the coast of Peru and Chile. Two siphons connect the organisms to the surrounding ocean, where one is used to exhale and the other to inhale. They feed on sea water by inhaling and filtering out all edible microalgae by use of a moving layer of mucus found in its enlarged pharynx. The other siphon is then used to exhale the water out. The Pharynx acts as the organism’s mouth and is connected to its digestive tract.

The Pyura chilensis contains clear blood and high quantities of vanadium, a rare and mysterious element. The vanadium is 10 million times more in the creature than in sea water. How they are able to accumulate high quantities of vanadium and what part it plays in the creature’s development is not yet known.

These rocks belong to the Ascidiacea non-moving class of sac-like invertebrate marine filter feeders, known in other words as sea squirts. Since they cannot move around in search of mates, the Pyura chilensis are hermaphroditic. They are born male but over time grow female organs. Breeding involves the unique and fascinating release of both sperms and eggs into a fertile cloud, where they meet to form off springs that are tiny and tadpole-like. These eventually settle on rocks nearby and grow into adult form.

The Pyura chilensis belongs to the Tunicata Subphylum class due to the thick “Tunics” made of Tunicin that cover it. These help them blend into the surroundings. The Tunicin is a hard matrix of molecules that assist the creatures attach themselves on to hard surfaces. An epidermis and muscular band lines the insides of the tunics. Seeing one of these creatures sliced in half is the most bizarre thing ever because inside these Tunics is a tissue like mass that is bright red and that will leave you flabbergasted.

The raw insides of this alien-like organism are a delicacy and are used as ingredients for stews or eaten in their raw form. Locals describe them as having a “bitter” and “soapy” taste that has a “weird iodine flavor”. For many years, the Chilean and Peruvian locals have been fishing the Pyura chilensis for commercial use.

Swimming With Death-Brave Swiss Diver Risks His Life to Swim with Anacondas

Franco Banfi, 53, a snake enthusiast and diver by profession went to Mato Grosso do Sul region of South America to closely observe and take pictures of this enormous beast. This brave man was armed only with his camera when he joined the anacondas in their natural habitat for ten odd days. During his trip, he observed six female anacondas and went close to them to take their close-ups.

This region which lies in the heart of South America is known for its greenery and natural beauty. The name ‘Mato Grosso do Sul’ means ‘Thick forest of the south’. The anaconda snakes coil themselves and wait for their prey silently. They immediately attack on seeing their prey which includes fish and rodents.

Banfi, who is a father of two kids, managed to capture the image of a massive anaconda that was lying on the river bank. The photographer was lucky since the huge beast had just devoured a capybara rodent and was not interested in eating the photographer as he was full. Banfi, who is a native of Switzerland, added that at first he was scared as he was not familiar with the animal. But later he realized that nothing wrong can happen if one respects the snake. The diver had never gone this close to any snake earlier. He added that an enormous anaconda is less scary and less dangerous than a small poisonous snake as one can easily see the huge anaconda and its actions.

THE THREE- LEGGED MAN - FRANCESCO LENTINI

Lentini was born in 1889 in Rosolini in the province of Sirocusa, Sicily as one of twelve children. Technically, he was one of 12 and a half children. His twin brother, who consisted of a leg and a set of genitals, was born attached to Francesco’s spine. While he was billed as ‘The Man With Three Legs’, Lentini actually had four feet as a small malformed secondary foot protruded from his third leg. Thus in total he had three legs, four feet, sixteen toes and two sets of functioning male genitals. Furthermore, to complicate his life further, all of Francesco’s legs were of different lengths.

As a child, Lentini hated his extra limbs and appendages. Doctors determined that because of their proximity to his spine, removal could have resulted in paralysis. Lentini was raised by his aunt after his parents refused to acknowledge him and she, meaning well, enrolled the young Lentini into a home for disabled children. While there he saw children far worse off than he. He saw children who could not walk at all and he gained a new appreciation for life. Lentini not only learned to walk, he also ran, jumped rope, rode a bicycle and even ice skate. His time at the home for disabled children was an experience he quoted for many years as his major motivation.

In 1898, at the age of eight, Lentini arrived in America and became an instant sensation. He charmed crowds with his keen wit and sense of humor. He wowed audiences with his unusual agility as well. He had amazing control over his extra appendage. During performances Lentini was well known for kicking a soccer ball about with the strange limb. As he grew older, Lentini’s performances focused on his charming character.

He would conduct interviews while propped up on his extra limb, using it as a stool. He fielded questions ranging from his innocent hobbies to the particulars of his sex life. He was also often asked about his shoes. People wondered if it was difficult to buy shoes in a set of three. Showing his mental sharpness, he always revealed that he bought two pairs and gave the extra one to a one-legged friend.

His charm did not go unnoticed and a young lady named Theresa Murray soon took a liking to Lentini. The pair soon wed and together they had four healthy children. Lentini continued touring until he died at the age of seventy-eight in 1966. His career spanned over forty years and he worked with every major circus and sideshow including Barnum & Bailey and Coney Island. Lentini was so respected among his peers that he was often simply called ‘The King’.
